How can gundog training help with recall and lead walking?
Lead Walking
Spaniels are not great at walking beautifully on the lead, as a spaniel owner you probably already know that! They naturally ‘quarter’, moving side to side in a figure of eight motion, tracking scents and intrinsically seeking to flush out wildlife as they go… and yes, even on an urban pavement it’s in their nature to walk in this fashion!
We have to give them a reason to WANT to walk next to or near to us, and that reason has to override all the other fantastic things the environment has to offer them.
There are many techniques and games I can teach you to make lead walking more interesting because, believe me, it’s as boring for your spaniel as it is for you if we don’t make it FUN. But then you have to practice, practice, practice… it absolutely will not happen overnight.
