Your spaniel might live the cosy family-dog life, but those in-bred working instincts haven’t gone anywhere. Their breed was designed to do things — to search, chase, flush, and follow scent — and that natural drive is still very much part of who they are. Even without a formal job, a spaniel’s prey drive and love of hunting remain strong, and they thrive when those instincts are understood and given a healthy outlet.
Gundog training can harness that instinct in a controlled way, meanwhile creating a stronger bond between you and your dog whilst you train!
I can help you teach your spaniel to:
🐾 Respond to a whistle to… recall, stop, hunt, turn, and follow directions.
🐾 Stay calm and focus on you, even with distractions.
🐾 Hold a sit-stay and exercise general impulse control.
🐾 Walk beautifully on and off the lead.
🐾 Behave appropriately around other dogs/livestock/birds.
🐾 Retrieve items straight back to you, helping prevent resource guarding and ‘stealing’
